Nicodemus and the New Birth | Pastor Jayson Hill
Sunday School · John 3:1-10 · Faith Baptist Church, Williston, Florida
A Sunday School study of Nicodemus in John 3: a religious ruler of the Jews who knew the scriptures yet did not know the righteousness of God or the new birth.
In this message:
• Nicodemus was a Pharisee and a ruler of the Jews, a religious man trained in the law of Moses (John 3:1)
• Religion can clean up the outside, but it cannot make a man right in the eyes of God
• Israel had a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge, and needed to be saved (Romans 10:1-2)
• Ignorant of God's righteousness, they went about to establish their own righteousness (Romans 10:3)
• Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth (Romans 10:4)
• The miracles and ministry of Jesus were already the talk of the town, and that is why Nicodemus came seeking (John 2:11, 15, 23; John 3:2)
• Lost people seek God because God is seeking them, so Christians must not be ashamed to lift up the gospel
• Salvation is far from the wicked, for they seek not thy statutes (Psalm 119:155); the Bereans searched the scriptures (Acts 17)
• At some point a man must stop asking questions and trust God by faith; avoid foolish questions (John 3:9-10; Titus 3:9)
Scripture: John 3:1-10 · Romans 10:1-4 · John 2:11 · John 2:15 · John 2:23 · Psalm 119:155 · Acts 17 · Titus 3:9 · Ezekiel 36 · Ezekiel 37 · Jeremiah 31
Also in this service: Congregational singing of hymn 236, "Amazing Grace," with opening and closing prayer.
