The Patriarchs: God Begins Again With One Family | Pastor Jayson Hill Wednesday Prayer & Mid-Week Service · Genesis 12:1-4 · Faith Baptist Church, Williston, Florida After Babel, God calls Abram out of idolatry and begins again with one family, and the message presses the duty of the home to teach the next generation the way of the Lord. In this message: • The fourth dispensation: after innocence, conscience and human government each end in failure, God deals with one family (Genesis 12:1-4) • "Get thee out of thy country": Abram is called to leave his country, kindred, father's house and inheritance (Genesis 12:1) • Abram's fathers "served other gods", so the old religion had to be left behind (Joshua 24:1-3) • "Come out from among them, and be ye separate": the Lord uses those who separate from the world (2 Corinthians 6:14-18) • God knew Abraham would command his children and his household after him to keep the way of the Lord (Genesis 18:17-19) • "Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it"; children are a heritage and a reward, not a burden (Psalm 127:1-5; Proverbs 17:6) • The Lord was witness between a man and the wife of his youth, and He hateth putting away (Malachi 2:13-16) • Husbands, wives, children and fathers each have a place in the home, modeled on Christ and the church (Ephesians 5:22-27; 6:1-4) • A charge is responsibility: Abraham kept God's charge, and the call is "as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD" (Genesis 26:4-5; Joshua 24:15) Scripture: Genesis 12:1-4 · Joshua 24:1-3 · 2 Corinthians 6:14-18 · Genesis 18:17-19 · Psalm 127:1-5 · Proverbs 17:6 · Malachi 2:13-16 · Ephesians 5:22-27 · Ephesians 6:1-4 · Genesis 26:4-5 · Genesis 11 · Hebrews 11 · Joshua 24:15 · Psalm 89:1 Also in this service: Congregational singing of hymn 210 and hymn 345 (the blessed hour of prayer), the scripture song Psalm 89:1, church announcements on upcoming outreach, and a season of congregational prayer for visitors, the church family and those traveling to preach the gospel.
