What Seek Ye

What Seek Ye | Pastor Jayson Hill Sunday Morning Service · John 1:38-39 · Faith Baptist Church, Williston, Florida The first words Jesus speaks in the gospel of John are a question — "What seek ye?" — and this message presses that question on every man following Him. In this message: • The deity of Christ runs through the whole of John 1, not merely verses 1 and 14 (John 1:1-18) • Jesus' first recorded utterance in John is a question: What seek ye? (John 1:38) • God's first word to fallen man was likewise a question — Where art thou (Genesis 3) • Questions are a tool for witnessing, engaging men and revealing where their heart stands • Men will not follow the Lamb of God because they love the sin He came to take away (John 1) • Seek and ye shall find — a man finds what he looks for, in sin or in the Lord (Luke 11:9) • A church built to appeal to lost and carnal people will be filled with lost and carnal people • What we ought to seek: help from sin, and to be a blessing to others rather than to be served • The two who followed answered rightly — Rabbi, where dwellest thou — and Christ said, Come and see (John 1:38-39) Scripture: Psalm 122:1 · Psalm 122:9 · Psalm 34:1-4 · John 1:1-18 · John 1:19-36 · John 1:38-39 · John 4:4 · Luke 11:9 · Genesis 3 Also in this service: Congregational singing of hymn 404 Great Is Thy Faithfulness and hymn 197 Hallelujah Tis Done, the scripture song Psalm 34:1-4, special music, a testimony from a two-week gospel trip out west, prayer for the church family and for the lost, potluck fellowship after the service, and the closing hymn 398 Down in the Valley With My Savior.
